  NEW DELHI DELIGHTS
On the banks of the river Yamuna is sprawled the capital city of India - New Delhi, the city that seems to have caught the eye of many a conqueror of India. Today, New Delhi is an intriguing mixture of forts, museums and monuments standing tall in Mughal splendors and imposing embassies, office blocks and luxury hotels along elegant avenues. You begin your tour of Luyten's Delhi by visiting the first garden tomb built in India. The tomb is said to be built by Humayun's wife Hamida Banu Begum who brought 300 craftsmen from Persia for this job. Enjoy the local cusine of india at The Line of No Control , In a setting plush with Afghan carpets and blue goblets, waiters in black tunics whisk in sizzling plate loads of brilliantly done breads and kebabs. Proceed to visit the 72 meter high Brick minaret the Qutab Minar (The tower of victory, World's Tallest). Amidst the perfect towers of the Persian world lies the Quwut - ul- Islam mosque which holds the 1500 year old Iron pillar, which hasn't rusted since then. According to the traditional belief, anyone who can encircle the entire column with their arms with their back towards the pillar can have his wish fulfilled. Proceed to Kinari Bazaar, just behind the Gurdwara Sisganj and Sunehri Masjid on Chandni Chowk it is largest market dealing in wedding accessories. The shops cater to the needs of people of all religions.

In the afternoon you shall experience the delights of New Delhi. During your tour now you shall notice a starling difference between the two parts of Delhi . Our tour of New Delhi commences with the visit to the Humayun's tomb. It is a grand affair, built by his widow who brought 300 craftsmen from Persia for this job. This magnificent tomb in red sandstone, crowned by a glorious double-dome in marble stands on a terrace, Char Bagh-the authentic Islamic lay out for a paradise on earth. Four canals divide the garden into four sections. In the central domed chamber is Humayun's grave lying in isolated grandeur. Drive past India Gate and Rastrapati Bhavan also known as Leytens Delhi , to enjoy the pleasures of the most beautiful part of Delhi. You shall stop briefly at India Gate, constructed as a memorial in the memory of 90,00 soldiers who laid down their lives during world war I. Located at Rajpath, Your tour comes to an end at the five story victory tower, Qutub Minar. Construction that started in 1193 by Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak, the first Muslim Sultan of Delhi was built in red sandstone. Concurrently was built by Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak was the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, the first mosque in India The mosque was constructed from the spoils of 27 demolished Hindu temples whose figures of gods and goddesses were defaced. An iron pillar stands in the courtyard in front of the mosque (center, above). The pillar which was built during the Gupta Empire (a Hindu empire in India from 320 to about 335AD) is a said to be a tribute to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that it is made of pure iron that never gets rusted. According to legend, anyone who can encircle the pillar by standing with their back to the pillar and clasping their hands together will have his wish granted.
